The US Army is moving ahead with a new partnership to turn raw drone footage into something far more useful: real-time intelligence. Safe Pro Group, a company specializing in AI-driven imaging, will provide technology that automatically spots threats, hazards, and key objects in aerial video. The goal is to cut down the time it takes human analysts to review hours of footage and instead give troops on the ground a clearer picture of what is actually out there.
Under the arrangement, Safe Pro's software will be tested for military use, focusing on detecting things like improvised explosive devices, enemy positions, and damaged infrastructure. The system works by running machine learning models over video streams, flagging items of interest and tagging them for quick review. That means a drone operator or a command post can get alerts in seconds rather than waiting for someone to manually scrub through every frame.
The Army has been pushing for more automated tools as drone use expands across all branches. Pilots and ground units are generating massive amounts of video, and the bottleneck is no longer collecting data but making sense of it. Safe Pro says its platform is already used in commercial and humanitarian settings, including landmine detection in conflict zones, and the military wants to adapt that same approach for combat operations.
No timeline was given for field deployment, and the deal is still in an early testing phase. But the move signals a broader shift toward letting AI handle the tedious parts of reconnaissance while soldiers focus on making decisions. The Army has not disclosed financial terms, but officials say the collaboration is part of a larger effort to speed up the adoption of commercial tech in defense.
