Why GigaCloud Technology (GCT) Is Up 21.7% After Strong Q2 Results And New Buyback Plan

GigaCloud Technology saw its stock surge 21.7% in early trading following the release of its second-quarter financial results and the announcement of a new capital return program. The company reported revenue of US$411.64 million for the period, alongside net income of US$42.34 million, figures that came in ahead of market expectations.

Looking ahead, management issued third-quarter revenue guidance in the range of US$375 million to US$400 million. While this suggests a sequential slowdown, the company framed it as a deliberate step to prioritize operational efficiency over aggressive top-line growth.

In a move that likely fueled much of the investor enthusiasm, the board authorized a new three-year share repurchase plan worth up to US$120 million, to be funded from existing cash reserves. This follows a previous buyback program and signals confidence in the company's cash generation capabilities.

During the earnings call, executives pointed to rising activity on the company's marketplace platform as a key driver of the quarter's performance. They also reiterated their commitment to fully integrating the New Classic acquisition, which was completed last year. The tone of the call suggested that management sees buybacks and selective integration work as more attractive uses of capital than aggressive expansion into new verticals at this time. The stock's strong reaction indicates that shareholders agree with that approach.
