Solidion Technology Hires Ballard Partners for Trade Lobbying

Solidion Technology Hires Ballard Partners for Trade Lobbying

Solidion Technology has signed a lobbying contract with Ballard Partners, a well-known government affairs firm, to focus on trade policy affecting battery materials. The move comes at a time when the Department of Energy is handing out half a billion dollars to strengthen the domestic supply chain for critical minerals.

The battery maker, which works on silicon anode technology for lithium-ion cells, is looking to shape federal decisions on tariffs, import rules, and incentives tied to energy storage. By hiring Ballard Partners, Solidion gains access to a team with deep ties to Capitol Hill and federal agencies, including the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

The DOE's recent allocation of $500 million is part of a broader effort to reduce reliance on foreign sources for minerals like lithium, graphite, and cobalt. That money is meant to support mining, refining, and recycling projects across the country. For companies like Solidion, the funding represents both an opportunity and a competitive challenge, as more players enter the market seeking a share of federal support.

Solidion's lobbying registration, filed earlier this month, lists trade and energy policy as the primary issues. The company has not disclosed specific legislative goals, but industry observers expect it to push for clearer rules on sourcing requirements and for expanded tax credits tied to domestic production.

This is not the first time Solidion has engaged with Washington. Earlier this year, the company submitted comments on proposed guidance for the electric vehicle tax credit, arguing that the rules should recognize emerging battery technologies. With Ballard Partners now on board, the company appears ready to take a more active role in shaping policy as the race for a homegrown battery supply chain heats up.
