The roar of a V12 engine is not disappearing, but it is increasingly sharing the stage with the silent hum of electric motors. In recent years, the supercar world has undergone a major shift, moving away from pure gasoline power toward hybrid and fully electric setups. This is not just a marketing trend; it is a fundamental change in how these machines deliver speed and performance.

Manufacturers are now blending electric motors with traditional combustion engines to create cars that are faster than ever before. The electric system provides instant torque, filling in the gaps where a gasoline engine might lag, while also allowing for short bursts of zero-emission driving in city centers. Cars like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the Lamborghini Revuelto are prime examples, using hybrid technology to boost horsepower while also reducing overall fuel consumption, at least on paper.

On the fully electric side, brands like Rimac have shown that battery power can be brutally fast. The Rimac Nevera, for example, uses four electric motors to produce nearly 2,000 horsepower, shattering acceleration records that were once thought impossible. However, the transition is not without its challenges. The heavy battery packs required for such performance can affect handling, and the lack of engine noise is a dealbreaker for many purists who equate the sound of a supercar with its soul.

For now, the industry seems to have settled on a middle ground. The hybrid approach allows drivers to have their cake and eat it too: instant electric power for off-the-line speed and a screaming gasoline engine for the open road. While fully electric supercars are coming, the current generation of hypercars proves that gasoline and electricity can coexist, creating a new breed of machine that is faster, cleaner, and more complex than anything that came before.
