The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, a move that includes key provisions acknowledging waste energy recovery technologies within federal energy policy. Sapphire Technologies, a company that manufactures pressure energy recovery systems, voiced strong support for the legislation.
The new language in the bill would allow farms, rural businesses, and industrial operators to convert wasted heat and pressure into usable electricity. This change is expected to open up federal rural energy programs to projects that capture energy that would otherwise be lost during industrial processes.
Sapphire Technologies, based in Cypress, California, noted that the inclusion of waste heat and pressure recovery is a significant step forward. The company specializes in systems that turn pressure drops in natural gas pipelines and other industrial settings into electric power.
Supporters of the measure argue that recognizing these technologies helps modernize rural energy policy. Instead of letting energy dissipate as waste, operators can now potentially access federal support to install equipment that generates clean electricity on site. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
